View Full Version : Frontpage issues - Can't login to just one account
I've never used FrontPage before, but I have a friend who's hosting a site on my server and he'd like to use it. The problem is I can't connect to his account using FP. I get the following error, even before it asks me for a password:
The folder 'http://domainname.com' isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \.
I've tried unloading and reloading FP extensions. I've tried deleting the .htaccess and letting FP make a new one. Neither worked.
The really strange part is I have another site on that box just sitting idle so I set it up with FP extensions as a test and I can get to it just fine. So it doesn't sound like an Apache or other server setting.
Any ideas?
Just another thought I had...
I FTP transfered his site over to my server from another server that he had been using FP, so it had all his FP extensions. Maybe that's what's causing the problem? Left over extensions? I thought then when I unloaded extensions it would delete them all, but maybe it's missing something?
Wow, this is getting frustrating. I made a copy of the site I'm having a problem with to another account/domain on the same box and had no problems at all using FrontPage. The original site is the only one that's giving me that error.
Is there some really stupid setting that I'm missing? The only thing I see different is that the site I'm having problems with has it's own IP and the other test sites I'm making aren't IP based. Would that affect it? Is there a way to move that site off of the IP?
Nope, the IP doesn't seem to matter. I made a new test account with a static IP and have no problems connecting to it with FrontPage.
These forums don't appear to be crawling with FrontPage users, which I can understand. If I had the choice I wouldn't use it at all. :( So does anyone know of a good support forum for FrontPage issues?

Try deleting the account you copied over. The re-create it, install the FP extensions and re-upload all his files again.
Thanks for the info. I was trying to avoid recreating his entire account, including SQL databases and such.
What's the easiest way to do this? Do I do a full cpanel backup of the account? Or will that just reinstall the problems when I restore it? Is FTP my only option here?
Oldford...
I have been reading your troubles for over a week now both here and at wht.. Just do a full back up and then replace only the files <-- not the directories.... create everything from the ground up!!
the sql's shouldn't be the problem here so you shouldn't have a problem backing them up and restoring them!!
thanks
So what are you saying? I'm slow! ;) Yes, I know.
OK, OK I've deleted the old account and created a new one from scratch. Now the new account isn't showing up yet at that domain. Does the normal 24-48 hr propogation need to happen? I wouldn't have thought so since that domain is already pointed to my nameserver. Shouldn't my changes be instant?
umm..
dns shouldn't be the issue here..
you sure things are set up correct?
does the domain show when you go yourhostingdomain.com/~user?
It seems to be working now. I restarted bind and after about 2 hrs the domain started showing up.
Yes, the yourhostingdomain.com/~user and IP were both working. Just not the domain.
I'm still crossing my fingers and knocking on wood, but everything seems to be up and running correctly including FP access.
good to hear oldford!!!

Thanks!
